Software Implementation Methodology
Yesterday we were explaining to a client our implementation methodology. We thought we'd share this as it will work for any software
implementation.
- Process Review - This is the most critical part of the implementation. At Oates, we perform
this task before the software is purchased to ensure we know what our client needs and what their cost will be.
- Proof of
Concept - This is an optional engagement that is typically conducted before the software is purchased and usually done with larger
implementations. In this phase, we install the software and actually run thorugh a limited set of data with the client. This gives both
the client and Oates a comfort level that the software will do what the client needs it to do.
- Installation and
Configuration - In this phase, we install the software and setup the modules based on the findings of the Process Review. IT
involvement in this phase is critical to ensure a successful implementation of the software. A test environment and a production environment is
set up during this phase as well.
- Data Conversion - A limited amount of data conversion is done in the test environment
to prepare for the Conference Room Pilot (step 6, below) and the base data conversion is done on the production
environment.
- Training of Users - All users are trained in their functional areas.
- Conference Room
Pilot - Users test the system with real-world examples and adjustments are made to any processes or forms in the system until everyone is
comfortable with the way the processes track through the system.
